Theoretical Veterinary Medicine is the National Key Discipline including six third-level subjects which are Anatomy of Domestic Animals, Histology and Embryology of Domestic Animals, Animal Physiology, Animal Biochemistry, Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Veterinary Pathology. It is authorized to award doctorate and master's degrees of Basic Veterinary Medicine and is supported by the Key Laboratory of Animal Physiology and Biochemistry, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The Department of Basic Veterinary Medicine has a high level of teaching and scientific research team with 14 professors and 10 associate professors. In the past three years, over 8 million RMB per year has been granted by the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the National Key Basic Research Program of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and so on. The department has established close academic cooperation relationships with a number of universities and scientific research institutes in USA, UK, Germany, France, Canada and Australia. Over 600 scientific papers have been published in the past five years, 500 of which have been published in SCI journals. Joyfully, several research findings have been successfully applied in veterinary clinic practice. Some teachers in this department have published the textbooks as editors in chief, such as Physiology of Domestic Animals, Animal Biochemistry, Pathology of Domestic Animals, and Animal Histology and Embryology, which are all being used by university students majoring in Animal Medicine and of other relevant majors in the whole country.
